dev1ce and Staehr reflect on their new IGL: He's Sometimes Too Hard on Himself

October 12, 2023

blameF was announced as the roster's brand-new in-game leader when the main team underwent considerable changes during the summer, including the legendary four-time Major winner, Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander, benched due to insufficient results in the first half of 2023.

Some would say it was a hefty legacy to take on, following gla1ve. In contrast, others might argue that the 26-year-old Benjamin "blameF" Bremer was more than ready to adopt a leadership role, taking over from his two-year senior team captain. Nonetheless, blameF was keen and quickly proved he was the perfect fit for the position of team captain, now being one of the two eldest in the Danish quintet alongside the superstar AWPer Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz.

We asked the 28-year-old veteran pro player, dev1ce, and the Danish squad's young prodigy, Victor "Staehr" Staehr, to share their thoughts on how their new IGL has performed in the role over the last three months. Below, the two players share how the ambitious team captain has set the tone for the roster.

dev1ce: He's Eager to Analyze Every Aspect of the Game

- This summer, many significant changes to the roster were set in motion. Ultimately, blameF became the new IGL of the squad. Given his experience in that role during his early days at Complexity, I wasn't overly concerned about the future. I believe Benjamin has all the elements to become an inspirational captain, dev1ce states.

- I already understood how much he could elevate this team and inspire us all with his relentless work ethic. He's undoubtedly demonstrated how far he's come with his eagerness to analyze every aspect of the game and develop the players surrounding him.

- He's done an admirable job so far. I know the immense effort he puts into this role to succeed. My only critique would be that sometimes he's too hard on himself because of his teammates' errors. It isn't always his fault when the team loses a few rounds here and there. He tends to blame himself, but he shouldn't. He'll realize and grow from it as he matures as a leader, the legendary AWPer says.

Staehr: When I Learned That blameF Would Lead the Way, I Had No Doubts

- When Astralis first contacted me, I wasn't even sure about the new lineup. However, when I learned that blameF would lead the way as the roster's new IGL, I had no doubts, the young rifler says.

- I knew he had operated in this specific role before. And when I spoke with dev1ce, who assured me that he believed in this project, I was convinced it was the right move for me, Staehr notes.
