It might be true that shotgun kills are a somewhat rarer sight nowadays.
Nonetheless, it's noteworthy that Johannes "b0RUP" Borup has entered a prestigious company alongside Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev and Viktor "sdy" Orudzhev in a niche stat.
Among the top three for most shotgun kills in 2023, the 23-year-old rifler, who joined Astralis this summer, currently ranks third for players from the top 20 teams with 15 shotgun kills this year. And when professionals from this organization make it to the top of leaderboards, it deserves a shout-out.
Choosing the risky and, at times, unreliable XM1014 takes courage, determination, and a fair deal of luck. But for those intent on "painting the room with lead fast," the automatic shotgun is the weapon of choice.
When asked about his surprising statistics, here's what a cheeky b0RUP had to say:
- It's always great to be part of a top 3 stat. Why not most shotgun kills in a year? I genuinely feel I'm ahead of the others on the list, especially since I've only played for a top-20 team since this summer. They've had half a year or more to build their stats. I know, and they know, the top spot will soon be mine. Especially on NUKE, I've already claimed it, b0RUP states with a wide smile.
Regarding the unusual weapon choice, he shared:
- It might not seem obvious, but on some maps, it's beneficial. I'm always ready with an XM1014 in the hut on Nuke, especially if Buzz or the others opt for the M4.
Asked about the secret behind handling such an unpredictable weapon, he jestingly replied:
- Oh no, I can't spill that! It demands intense practice; even then, one might only be ready to learn the secret.
If you were wondering, the official description of the XM1014 reads, "A powerful fully automatic shotgun that justifies its heftier price tag with its ability to paint a room with lead fast.
