The last tournament on the 2020 calendar, IEM Global Challenge, is done and dusted. Eight of the world's best Counter-Strike teams fought for the monumental $500,000 prize pool and one team stands tall. A single defeat against BIG and victories against Vitality, NAVI, and Complexity. All culminated in a dominant Grand Final where Astralis took down Team Liquid in a swift BO5, 3-0.
Nicolai 'dev1ce Reedtz had himself a beastly performance in the last showdown of the year.
The veteran AWP'er is happy with his own and the team's performance:
- We sure had our backs against the wall for a great deal of 2020. Ending the year on a high note like this feels unbelievable. It also makes us that much more excited for the next year. But with three grand finals in a row to end the year we do need some rest right now.
dev1ce had some heartfelt words for the fans, the so called Astralis Family, as well:
- The only way to interact with our fans right now is through social media so it has been extra important to share our victories and defeats through those channels. We would not be where we are if it had not been for them. I know everyone on the team can't wait to share the arenas with them again when it becomes possible.
This was Astralis' fourth title of the year: ESL One Road to Rio, Pro League S12, DreamHack Masters Winter, and now IEM Global Challenge.
As 2020 ends, 2021 begins. And the new year is off to anything but a slow start. The next tournament for Astralis Counter-Strike is the BLAST Premier Global Final on January 18 where no less than $1,000,000 is up for grabs.
