zonic wins yet another prestigious title
December 10 the annual Game Awards took place. Broadcasted live from three studios in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo, people watched from all over the world as the biggest game hits and gaming personalities collected their awards.
At the biggest game award show of the year, with guests such as Brie Larson, Keanu Reeves, Tom Holland, and Christopher Nolan, the Head Coach of Astralis Counter-Strike team Danny 'zonic' Sørensen won in the category Esports Coach against huge names like G2's Fabian 'Grabbz' Lohmann and Lee 'Zefa' Jae-Min from T1.
Danny 'zonic' Sørensen:
- The Game Awards is the most prestigious in the gaming industry, and to be even mentioned next to the biggest titles and events in the world is surreal. It comes at a time where we as a team and the organization has gone through a lot, just like the rest of the world I guess, but to get this kind of acknowledgement in 2020 means a lot.
- We've introduced new ways of playing the game, a bigger roster, had players out on leave and done basically everything from home due to the pandemic. Still, the team has never bottomed out, we've stayed in the top and we've won 3 tournaments so far. This is a huge accomplishment by the players and the group, and the credit should go to everybody on the team, who have fought so hard for this, but also the people in the organization who really put their heart and soul into this.
- We've won a lot with Astralis, but I still find it humbling to be decorated with an award like this. All I can really say is thank you to all the people who voted for me. I assume many of them are the same people who cheer for us through victory and defeat and without those people everything we're doing would be pointless.
- Now it's time to continuously prove that we're worthy of this award and what better way to do it than to go head to head with the winner of Esports Team of the Year, G2 Esports, later today at BLAST Premier. We can talk a lot, but it's on the server we find the real winners.
Danny 'zonic' Sørensen has was Coach of the Year at Esports Awards, is part of the Danish Esport's Hall of Fame and is the author of the award winning book "The Astralis Story".
The newly decorated coach and his team will be going up against G2 Esports at BLAST Premier at CET 16:30 on December 11.
