Staehr: It May Be the Wildest Comeback I've Been Part Of

August 30, 2023
  • Date: On August 25th, 2023
  • Tournament: Pinnacle Cup V (Online)
  • Opponent: 00NATION
  • Match: The main team concluded the series with a 2-1 loss (11-16 on Mirage, 28-26 on Overpass and 9-16 on Nuke)

Despite the main team's brief appearance at the Pinnacle Cup V tournament, which unfortunately concluded with a loss in the semifinals, blameF and the team executed an impressive comeback on their map pick, Overpass, against 00NATION—an occurrence that is rarely witnessed.

Trailing with a 15-2 deficit and struggling on the offensive side, the Danes orchestrated a remarkable turnaround after halftime, delivering an astonishing performance on the CT side and clinching victory in 13 consecutive rounds.

A 13-round winning streak is undoubtedly an extraordinary occurrence, belonging to the category of the most improbable and unreal comebacks.

Staehr: A mix of a well-executed strategy and a bit of luck

When you ask Victor "Staehr" Staehr, he considers Friday night's remarkable comeback one of the most impressive he's experienced in competitive play so far.

Despite the challenging defeat in the end, he emphasizes that the energy within the Danish Quintet was electrifying during the incredible 13-round winning streak on Overpass. This particular turn of events is something he'll remember personally.

- This is arguably one of the most remarkable comebacks I've ever been a part of. We could only focus on winning one round at a time, and initially, it felt incredibly daunting given that we were trailing 2-15.

- However, we ultimately managed to win on Overpass after enduring four overtime rounds. Naturally, we were thrilled with this result. Our run of 13 consecutive wins was a mix of a well-executed strategy and a bit of luck. Nevertheless, we're more than happy to embrace it! The 19-year-old rifler says.

- We followed our own game plan, opting for a more passive strategy that day, allowing our opponents to make the first move. And it paid off! Every team member stepped up their performance in the second half and delivered powerfully.

- Regrettably, we ended up on the losing side in the final result, but such is the nature of the game at times, Staehr notes.

Forcing the match into intense overtime

The Danish caster F8deCS's excitement was noticeable as he witnessed the Danes complete the comeback and drive the match into an intense overtime showdown.

You can hear his enthusiasm in this clip below.

To add the finishing touch, the map victory on Overpass was sealed after a heart-pounding sequence of four overtime rounds. This propelled the match to a decisive fight on Nuke, culminating in a remarkable 28-26 score on the second map.
