With the tournament organizers transitioning to the brand-new Counter-Strike 2 at the ongoing IEM Sydney, reflecting on Astralis' significant achievements over the past decade in CS:GO is fitting.
Buzzwords like "longest," "first," and "only" frequently underline the several Astralis rosters' notable milestones.
Astralis has undoubtedly cemented its legacy in the CS:GO era and esports history, boasting four Major titles and a grand slam.
The Astralis Era (2018-20)
Longest Reigning Team at No. 1 in HLTV Rankings
Astralis boasts the record for the longest consecutive reign atop the HLTV World ranking.
They secured first place after winning at DreamHack Master Marseille 2018. From April 23, 2018, to June 2, 2019, the core Astralis roster remained dominant, holding the top spot for an impressive 406 days.
In 2020, Astralis Counter-Strike finished the year at #1 in the World Rankings for the third consecutive year.
Astralis claimed the lion's share of the trophies distributed among the three best Counter-Strike teams in 2020.
In 2020, the roster won four big tournaments:
The ESL One: Road to Rio Europe
The ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe
DreamHack Masters Winter 2020
IEM Global Challenge 2020.
Most Decorated Team in History
Astralis was the first team to clinch an Intel Grand Slam (Season 1) by emerging victorious at the ESL Pro League Season 8 on home soil.
Their winning streak persisted, making them the only squad to clinch three consecutive CS:GO Majors, becoming the most accomplished team with four major titles. The next best, Fnatic, has three Major championships.
Astralis Major Wins:
ELEAGUE Major 2017 (January 29, 2017)
FACEIT Major: London 2018 (September 23, 2018)
IEM Katowice Major 2019 (March 3, 2019)
StarLadder Major: Berlin 2019 (September 8, 2019)
Furthermore, Astralis holds the distinction of the most pristine Major playoff runs, securing 2-0 victories in all playoff matches for three consecutive majors.
Only Team with All Five Players in the HLTV Top 20
Astralis is also unique because they are the first and only team to feature all five players in HLTV's Top 20.
In 2018, every player from the team was listed among the top 20 CS:GO players globally.
HLTV Top 20 Player 2018 Ranking:
Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz: 2nd
Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen: 5th
Emil "Magisk" Reif: 7th
Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander: 8th
Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth: 13th
The cohesiveness and consistent performance of Astralis members ensured an unmatched dominance in 2018, notably with their collective presence in the HLTV Top 20 rankings.
Moreover, at least one Astralis player has appeared in the HLTV Top 20 each year since the organization's founding, with Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz standing out with six inclusions.
The Astralis Recipe
In spring 2018, Astralis began their year-long CS:GO dominance. They pioneered a new meta through meticulously planned utilities emphasizing HE grenades, smokes, and flashes. Grenade damage surged, with other teams adopting this strategy by year's end. It's now nearly unthinkable to control Banana without multiple utility sets, just as it's hard to recall a time before this approach.
Astralis' innovations forever changed the game at every tier.
The Streak Continues
Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz boasts a positive Kill/Death ratio against every team he has faced (with >6 map encounters).
The Danish quintet is set to debut in their first CS2 tournament on October 25th during the Roobet Cup. As always you can watch all the action LIVE on Astralis Watch.
