On April 26, Valve released a major update for Counter-Strike 2 that introduced many much-appreciated enhancements and a significant shift in the Active Duty Group map pool.
The much-requested cl_righthand 0 command was revived, receiving widespread appreciation from the community. Yet, the most eye-catching update was the return of the legendary Dust2 map—one of the most popular maps in Counter-Strike's history, having featured in 16 out of 20 majors to date. The most notable change was that Dust2 replaced Overpass in the current map pool instead of, for example, Mirage or Vertigo, which were initially speculated to be removed.
After a long 18-month pause to make way for Anubis, Dust2 is finally returning to official tournaments, a moment many in the gaming community have been eagerly awaiting.
We've gathered reactions from our players to check their reception of the latest Valve update.
Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz was excited about Dust2's comeback but also expressed confusion about the latest game update, asking, "I don't know why Overpass had to go."
"Pretty cool update; I also love dust2 and am excited to see if it plays differently than before! I don't know why Overpass had to go since I feel like other maps play the same tempo as Dust2, but Overpass is very different," dev1ce posted on X on the night the update was revealed.
"The first update needed is T spawn—should not have these many spawn positions, and hopefully, they don't lock 5 for too long. Too many games on Dust2 have been decided on T spawns being random (If you have the 5 best spawns towards long, it's over for the CTs)," the in-game leader added.
Aurora "Aurora" Lyngdal, our Women's team's in-game leader, was not satisfied with Overpass exiting the Active Duty map pool. On the night of the Valve update, the 28-year-old rifler posted on X:
"Removing Overpass is NOT OK!"
Her teammate, Marie 'Marie' Toft Sørensen, seemed just as unsettled as her team captain about the map pool change; on the other hand, she was pleased about the cl_righthand 0 command.
"Left-hand nice, Dust2 cringe af—Overpass cringe af. Again, left-hand nice!"
