In 2019, Astralis Counter-Strike was #1 in the charts and the impressive viewership numbers continued to improve in 2020. As NAVI gained around 6.2 million hours more, despite increased viewership, Astralis came in second in 2020.
2020 was the year that all of competitive esports moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Worried that it was going to affect interest and viewership when people were no longer allowed to go to thrilling live events esports prevailed beyond expectation.
When Astralis won Pro League S12 they did so with a peak viewership of 627,605 online viewers (not including TV networks etc.) shattering previous Pro League records. A number that was bumped up to 645,853 peak viewers during the Grand Final of BLAST Global Final 2020 between Astralis and NAVI. Close to an all-time online viewership record only surpassed by NAVI vs. Vitality in the tournament boasting a wild 687,691 peak viewers.
Second most watched team of 2020
NAVI ran away with the crown of online viewership in 2020. 61 million hours was spent watching the Russian Ukranian team compete throughout 2020. Astralis comes second in the statistics with 42.8 million hours spent watching the Counter-Strike team claim four titles in 2020. Almost 9 million hours more than the otherwise extremely popular MiBR with a massive Brazilian fan base behind it.
Considering that more than four months of 2020 was spent with a fluid roster due to Lukas 'gla1ve' Rossander and Andreas 'Xyp9x' Højsleth taking leave, the increase from 36.7 million hours watched of Astralis in 2019 (a year with 2x Major victories) to 42.8 million in 2020 is a welcome surprise.
