A week after winning Group C in ELEAGUE, the boys are back in action in America in the IEM Oakland tournament played at the home of the Golden State Warriors of the NBA in Oracle Arena, Oakland.
Thousands of esports fans are expected to attend a hotly anticipated tournament, which will put the best of North American teams against some of the most premier European CS:GO teams from Wednesday, November 16 until Sunday, November 20 for a cool $300,000 prize pool.
To get close to a chunk of the prize pool though, we have to face Liquid, Na’Vi, G2, Immortals and TyLoo in group A in a round robin of BO1 matches. The team in first place at the end of the round robin will secure a place in the semi-final, while second and third face off against second and third in group B for the remaining semi-final spots.
The boys should come into the tournament on a high after taking a convincing win against world champions SK and conquering Alternate Attax in the ELEAGUE group stage. It is not going to be easy though and history does not favour us against Natus Vincere who have taken four wins against our one in the last five outings.
Elsewhere G2 have only had two wins in their last five games, and despite our recent defeat against them in ECS, the team could replicate their ESL ONE NY game against the French side and sneak a 16-13 win.
Chinese giants TyLoo, who surprised casters and watchers alike during their performances in the second series of StarLadder, have taken four wins in their last five games. At our last meeting, Astralis stole the win in a Bo3 and the boys will be hoping to recreate that success once again.
The group stages will also hold a number of firsts for the team, who will enjoy their first meeting against Immortals and against Liquid in our current roster.
Although some of the boys once faced the Liquid as Team SoloMid back in 2015, both teams have swapped multiple players since then. There’s no denying that we’ll be hoping to replicate the 16:0 whitewash and Dev1ce’s 2.62 player rating with emphatic victories over both them and Immortals and secure a place in the semi-finals.
